Overview
Cognistream’s buyers wanted more than a generic chat over PDFs: they needed workspace isolation per matter, role-based redaction, and prompts tuned to their playbooks. We shipped a multi-tenant SaaS front end, orchestration layer for model calls, and human-in-the-loop review so lawyers always sign off on high-risk clauses.
Challenge
Early pilots mixed consumer-grade LLM UIs with spreadsheets for tracking decisions. Compliance asked for exportable logs, retention controls, and clear labelling when output was model-generated. Latency and cost had to stay predictable as document size grew.
What we built
Structured ingestion pipeline (chunking, OCR hooks), retrieval against customer-approved clause libraries, streaming responses with citations back to source spans, and an admin console for model version pinning and rate limits. We designed failure modes: graceful degradation when a provider is unavailable, and offline-friendly PDF export for board packs.
